There's a gaping chasm between the three-cylinder GT and the flagship plug-in hybrid GT Sport, where an engine more competitive with that of rivals like the Cupra Leon and Honda Civic could sit. Hilariously, the artificial noise enhancement that's activated by the Sport button makes the diesel sound like a highly tuned American V8, which subconsciously seems to prepare you for the 0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds. By the numbers, the 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine in the PEUGEOT 308 GT doesn't sound like much of a powerhouse.
